Divided into three categories, classic, modern and grand prix, boats in the fleet range in age from 21 years to 80 years old. The entire fleet is moored in the North Marina of Port America’s Cup when not racing. There will be a total of seven races sailed over four days over windward-leeward courses, with the first start each day not before 14:30.

Spectator boats will leave from Port America’s Cup each day, price Euro 35 per passenger.

12-Metres were the class of yacht used for ten America’s Cup Matches between 1958 and 1987. Although the class was already 50 years old when it first provided boats for the Cup at the time they represented the most practical and affordable boats for match racing at the America’s Cup in the economically depressed post-war era.

The 12-Metre rule, the number is the function of a formula that measures sail area, waterline length and displacement class, yields boats that are all slightly different but are on average about 18 metres in length with about 180 square metres of sail area and weigh in at about 27 tonnes.

The technical development of the class received a shot in the arm when they started to be used for the America’s Cup. Up until that time all 12-Metres had been built of wood, but during the ‘60s aluminium started to take over as the material of choice and during the mid 1980s glass fibre was used for three boats.

It was in 1983 that a 12-Metre, Australia II, became the first Challenger to win the America’s Cup. This was the ‘wing-keeled’ wonder that stood the America’s Cup world on its head. A replica of that famous keel stands at the top of the Superyacht Pier in Port America’s Cup.

The City of the Arts and the Sciences offers for the third consecutive year its great Festival of Sport. It's a celebration of sport and you can learn the basics of several sports from great professionals.The America' s Cup in Valencia this year will mean that there will be special emphasis on the sea and sailing. Demonstrations, exhibitions, workshops for children, zones of play, mini competitions, practical classes, exhibitions... get on down to The City of the Arts and the Sciences and spend an unforgettable day of sport and making friends. All day on Sunday 17June.

• EXHIBITIONS:
• "Sport and genetics" • "ecological Motoring: Exhibition of the TaronJet " The Taronjet is an ecological car designed and constructed in the Polytechnical University of Valencia by students and professors of the Schools of Engineering, and that will participate in the traditional automobile competition denominated Shell Echo, where the objective is to cross the Maxima distances with the smaller fuel consumption.1000 km on a litre of fuel

COOLTRA
Thisisvalencia.com paid a visit to the brand-new COOLTRA store on the Avenida del Puerto this week to check out their selection of scooters available for both long and short term rental and purchase. COOLTRA has been running successfully in Barcelona for a while now, and even run a scooter tour service in conjunction with Barcelona Turisme up there. Their plans for the next two years are to open 30 more stores across Europe, starting in Valencia where they are just starting out, and their large, warehouse-style shop is already open for business. With a cosy area at the front complete with sofas, internet, and laptop computers and friendly and helpful staff on hand, rentals start at just 20€ a day. COOLTRA are unique in the rent-a-bike business in that they build their own bikes from scratch and they are pretty great to look at too.

COOLTRA's motto is Move Like A Local, and will do their best to help you do so. They offer three special services for a very different biking experience - Azafata, Pilot and Buddy. With Azafata, bikes are available for corporate events, Pilot is a crash-course in riding a motorbike in the City, and Buddy is an excellent way to get around - hire your own driver to escort you through the streets of Valencia if you're not sure of your way. A tour is also on offer, either personalised for groups or the standard tour.

There are two running events in the city on sunday 17 June

III Carrera por la Convivencia Intercultural

A 5,000 metre run around the streets of the city - leaving from the Plaza Ayuntamiento at 9.00 am. Last year's run had 850 runners from 30 countries, this year they are expecting a whopping 2,400!

XI Triatlón Ciudad de Valencia 2007

The beach at Cabanyal is the setting for this year Triathlon, over 500 particpants are expected. It all starts at 9.00 am. Sprint; 750 metres
Walking 20 km.
Bicycle 5 km

Here is a great opportunity to have a leisurely day out on a catamaran and get to see a match between Alinghi and Emerates Team New Zealand A Catamaran is much more stable than a mono hull boat; and much more comfortable if there is choppy water.  The Bora Bora is a spacious 14 metres and will take up to 40 passengers.  Drinks and snack food are included in the price.  Everyone should bring their own picnic and some water.

This will be a lovely day out with a difference on 27 and 28 June and all for only 140 euros.

3 pm - 5 pm watch the race, with picnic
5 pm to 7.30 sail south to the beach at Saler, anchor, swim, cool off.
return to Club Nautico for 7.30 pm

Refreshments will be served but bring picnic lunch and water!

If there is no race, they will be able to take the boat out on another day.

The “IX TROFEO S.M. LA REINA – Regata Homenaje a la Armada – XX Copa Almirante Sánchez - Barcaiztegui” is organised by the Real Club Náutico de Valencia (RCNV) and the Real Federación Española de Vela (RFEV), with the sponsorship of ROLEX and the collaboration of the Federación de Vela de la Comunidad Valenciana (FVCV). 

The event, will be held in the waters off Valencia, from 11th July to 14th July 2007 both dates inclusive.
